You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hot Dogs = x
Potato Chips = y
5x + 4y = 1950......1
2x + 5y = 1375......2
Multiply (1) by 5 and (2) by 4
25x + 20y = 9750....3
8x + 20y = 5500....4
Subtract (4) from (3)
17x = 4250
x = 250
Substitute x = 250 in (2)
2x + 5y + 1375
2(250) + 5y = 1375
500 + 5y = 1375
5y = 875
y = 175
Hot Dogs cost $2.50
Potato Chips cost $1.75
Hope this helps.
