Question 759711: I am having difficulties with two compound inequality problems; they are the and/or please help.This is the " and" problem -16<2+9x<11 This is the "or" inequality 12-x>15 or 4x-13>7
Answer by KMST(5328) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! -16<2+9x<11
Subtract 2 from all 3 sides
-16-2<9x<11-2 --> -18/<9x<9
Divide every side by 9
-2
12-x>15 or 4x-13>7
4x-13>7 adding 13 to both sides turns into 4x>20
and dividing both sides by 4 we get x>5
From 12-x>15, subtracting 12 from both sides, we get -x>3
Then, multiplying both sides times -1 (it requires reversing the inequality sign) we get
x<-3
So the solution to 12-x>15 or 4x-13>7 is
x<-3 or x>5
