You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x - 2y = -4
2x - y = 1
Eq 1
x - 2y = -4
Add 2y to both sides.
x - 2y + 2y = -4 + 2y
x = -4 + 2y
Eq 2
2x - y = 1
Substitute x = -4 + 2y
into Eq 2
2(-4 + 2y) - y = 1
Multiply out
-8 + 4y - y = 1
Collect like terms
Remember to change signs if you cross the =
+4y - y = 1 + 8
3y = 9
y = 3
Substitute y = 3 in Eq 1
x - 2y = -4
x - 2(3) = -4
x - 6 = -4
x = -4 + 6
x = 2
x = 2 y = 3
Hope this helps.
