Here is the question--
A number of two digits is less than four times the product of its digits by 5, and the digit in the ten's place exceeds the digit in the unit's place by one. Find the number.
I know that the number is 10x + y but i cannot get the equation to work out 'x' and 'y'.

The number itself, is, as you state: IF you let represent the 10s digit and represent the 1s digit.

Then the product of the digits is and "less than 4 times the product of its digits by 5" is , leaving us:
