Question 7589: what is 3/4 minus 5/12?
Answer by longjonsilver(2297) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! convert the fractions so that they have the same denominator... in this example make them both 12... so 3/4 is the same as 9/12. Hopefully you are OK with this? both mathematically and common sense wise i mean.
so we now have 9/12 - 5/12
(9-5)/12
--> 4/12
which simplifies back down to 1/3
