Question 757792: a flag stands in the centre of a field that measures 5 m by 6.5 m. The flagpole to be supported by four guy wires that reach to the four corners of the field. What is the total lenght of guy wire needed if they are to reach 8 m p the flagpole Answer by sachi(548) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! the flag post is at centre of the 5 by 6.5 field i.e at half diagonal from corner
so the distance =1/2sqrt(5^2+6.5^2)=4.10=d
now the half diagonal (d),the wire(l) on one side & height of 8m where the wire is tied is aright angled triangle
so by pythagores theorem
l^2=8^2+(4.1)^2=64+16.81=80.81
or l=sqrt(80.81)=8.99
the length of the 4 wires=4*8.99=35.96
