( 1 pool ) / ( 12 hrs ) + ( 1 pool ) / ( 18 hrs )
Let +t+ = time in hrs to fill pool with both pipes open
+1%2F12+%2B+1%2F18+=+1%2Ft+
Multiply both sides by +36t+
+3t+%2B+2t+=+36+
+5t+=+36+
+t+=+7.2+ hrs
From 8 AM to 2 PM is 6 hrs
The pool will not be filled in time
