Question 757524: suppose the function f is defined by 2xy-25=0, will the line defined by y=x cut the gragh of f in two points, or the shortest distance from the origin to a pont on the graph of f be 5 units, or will the graph of f be a hyberbola which lies in the first and third quadrants

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
suppose the function f is defined by 2xy-25=0, will the line defined by y=x cut the gragh of f in two points, or the shortest distance from the origin to a pont on the graph of f be 5 units, or will the graph of f be a hyberbola which lies in the first and third quadrants
--------
2xy-25=0
y = x
-----------------
y = 25/(2x) = 12.5/x
y = x
---
Solve: x = 12.5/x
x^2 = 25/2
x = +-(5/2)sqrt(2
----
So you have 2 points of intersection: (-(5/2)sqrt(2),-(5/2)sqrt(2))
and ((5/2)sqrt(2),(5/2)sqrt(2))
