Let the age of Katherine be n + 2
Let the age of Cristine be n
Therefore:
n + 2 + n = 72
2n + 2 = 72
Subtract 2 from each side of the equation.
2n + 2 - 2 = 72 - 2
2n = 70
Divide each side by 2
2n = 70
n = 35

Answer:
Cristine is 35 years old and Katherine is 37 years old
