When you want to graph rational functions 
what two things do you look out for?

1. Denominators containing x, some 
value(s) of which cause the denominator to 
be zero.  In this case you will usually 
have a vertical asymptote; however, 
sometimes you have a "hole in the curve" or 
"removable discontinuity".

2, Even root radicals containing x, 
some values of which cause the "radicand" 
(what's under the radical) to be negative. 
`
The range of a rational function does not 
include any values of x which cause either
any denominator to be 0, or which cause any 
even-root radicand to be negative. 
Note: By "even root" I mean square root,
fourth root, sixth root, eighth root, etc.
