ac=-12

Find two numbers whose product is -12 and whose sum is 11
The numbers are -12 and 1.
Rewrite the problem as:
3x^2-12x+x-4
Factor the 1st two and then the last two terms separately to get:
=3x(x-4)+(x-4)
Factor again:
=(x-4)(3x+1)
