Question 755857: Hi there, here is my question. I found a very similar problem in the notes for the classes, but it says what the probability would be if the class run before 51.25 for example. This problem gives two numbers and I am unsure of how to solve that.
If you can show me how to solve this, that would be awesome. Thank you!
--------------------
A statistics professor plans classes so carefully that the lengths of her classes are uniformly distributed between 46.0 and 56.0 minutes. Find the probability that a given class period runs between 51.25 and 51.5 minutes (round to three decimal places as needed).
So the question is: Find the probability of selecting a class that runs between 51.25 and 51.5 minutes.
------------
Thank you again :)
You can put this solution on YOUR website! A statistics professor plans classes so carefully that the lengths of her classes are uniformly distributed between 46.0 and 56.0 minutes. Find the probability that a given class period runs between 51.25 and 51.5 minutes (round to three decimal places as needed).
------
Uniform distribution means the distribution has the shape of a rectangle.
-----
Base = 56-46 = 10
Height = 1/10 so the area of the rectangle is 1.
----
P(51.25<= x <= 51.50) = base*height = 0.25*(1/10) = 0.0250
