You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Geoff has 184 pounds of 94% lead and 6% antimony,
How much tin would he need to add to have 90% lead 5% each tin and
antimony?
:
Find amt of Lead and antimony in the mixture initially
.94(184) = 172.96 lb
.06(184) = 11.04 lb
:
Since the amt of tin is to be the same as the amt of antimony,
amt of tin = 11.04 lb added
:
Check this, find the total amt of the mixture
184 + 11.04 = 195.04 lb of mixture now
:
See if that checks out
172.96/195.04 * 100 = 89%
11.04/195.04 * 100 = 5.66% of tin and Antimony
---------------------------
Total percent: 100.32 which is about as close as you will get it
