Let the age of Donna be x
Let the age of Beth be 2x
Therefore:
2x + x = 54
3x = 54
Divide each side by 3
3x/3 = 54/3
x = 18
2x = 18 * 2 = 36

Answer:
Donna is 18 years old and
Beth is 36 years old.
