The LCM of 18 and 12 is 36. So, since

8 men can build a house in 18 days, that means

8 men can build 2 houses in 36 days, so

4 men can build 1 house in 36 days

So the answer is that it'll take 3 times as many,
or 12 men to finish one house in only one-third
that much time, or 12 days.
