Kathy drove at 15 miles per hour, and Amy ran at 3 miles per hour. How far did Kathy have to drive to catch Amy. If you could help me with this problem I would really appreciate it. Thank You
Think about it this way. If A has a head start over K and they are going the exact same rate, then K never catches A. But if K is going a little bit faster, then that little bit is used to eat up the head start and eventually K catches A. In your problem, you have K going 12 miles per hour faster than A (15 minus 3 = 12), so it is this difference that is applied to the head start distance. How long does it take K to cover the 120 mile head start at 12 mph?
