Question 753182: Hello, I've just found this website and am unsure if this is the correct section, the question fits a few of them I believe, anyhow:
There is a right angled triangle, 8cm by 15cm, with a hypotenuse of 17cm.
There is a rectangle of 12cm by X cm.
The area's of these two shapes are the same. What is the value of X ?
Thank you for your help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the area of th rectangle is 1/2 * base * height, so
1/2 * 8 * 15 which is 60cm squared
the area of the rectangle is thus 60cm squuared. you already know the length is 12 cm, so the width must be 5 cm (as 5 * 12 = 60)
