Question 752773: There were 460 people at a play. The admission price was $3 for adults and $1 for children. The admission receipts were $1060. How many adults and how many children attended? Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! x = adults: y = children
x + y = 460 ....1
3x + y = 1060....2
Subtract (1) from (2)
2x = 600
x = 300
Substitute x = 300
in equation 1
x + y = 460
300 + y = 460
y = 460 - 300
y = 160
Therefore there were 300
adults and 160 children
Hope this helps
