You can put this solution on YOUR website!

A train has a regularly scheduled run between two towns. If the train travels at 40 mph, then it arrives at its destination 10 minutes late. If the train travels at 30 mph, then it is 16 minutes late. Find the distance between the two towns.

Let distance be D
Then time taken at 40 mph = D%2F40

Time to get there on time = D%2F40+-+10%2F60, or %283D+-+20%29%2F120

Time taken at 30 mph = D%2F30
Time to get there on time = D%2F30+-+16%2F60, or %282D+-+16%29%2F60

Therefore, we have: %283D+-+20%29%2F120+=+%282D+-+16%29%2F60
3D – 20 = 2(2D – 16) ------- Multiplying by LCD, 120
3D – 20 = 4D – 32
3D – 4D = - 32 + 20
- D = - 12

D, or distance between the towns = %28-+12%29%2F-+1, or highlight_green%2812%29 miles.

You can do the check!!
