Question 749029: i need your help with word problem i never seem to understand the this one in particular is giving me trouble
a swimming pool can be filled in 9 hours and it can be emptied in 12 hours. in error, the drain pipe was left open while attempting to fill the pool. how long did it take to fill the pool? Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
By itself, the inlet can fill the pool in 9 hours, so it can fill of the pool in 1 hour. Likewise, the drain can empty of the pool in 1 hour. Working against one another, the inlet and the drain fill of the pool in 1 hour. Do the arithmetic and then take the reciprocal to find the total time.
