x+y =53 (or y=53-x)

x(53-x)=196
53x-x^2=196
x^2-53x+196=0
-49 and -4 work...


x^2-49x-4x+196=
x(x-49)+4(x-49)=0

(x+4)(x-49)=0

so we use x=49
and then we see y=4
