an automobile tank is 1/6 full of gasoline. when eight litres are added to the tank, it is 1/4 full of gasoline. how many litres of gasoline does the tank hold
------
Let the tank capacity be "x" litres.
-----
Equation:
(1/6)x + 8 = (1/4)x
--------
Multiply thru by 12 to get:
2x + 96 = 3x
x = 96 litres

an automobile tank is 1/6 full of gasoline. when eight litres are added to the tank, it is 1/4 full of gasoline. how many litres of gasoline does the tank hold.
***
let x= litres of gasoline the tank holds.
x/6+8=x/4 (1/6 capacity+8 litres=1/4 capacity)
x/4-x/6=8
3x/12-2x/12=8
x/12=8
x=96 litres of gasoline the tank holds.
