Last year stephanie was paid a base salary of $12000 per year plus a commission of 3% on the total dollar value of her sales. she sold $1120000 worth of company products. how much did she make?this year, Stephanie's new commission rate will be cut to 2.8% but her base salary will be raised to $14000 per year. should stephanie be concerned? what would the difference in her salary have been if this plan had been in place last year? sorry if this problem is to long but it's just that i don't get how to do it because of my math teacher not being so helpful i our homework so please help me understand this -thanks from Micah
Last year
Base salary: $12,000
Commission: .03 * $1,120,000, or $33,600
Total earnings of: $12,000 + $33,600, or $45,600
If she can maintain sales greater than $1,000,000, then she should be worried because her total earnings will be less than last year’s. However, if she anticipates that sales will dip below $1,000,000, then she shouldn’t be concerned because her earnings will be more than last year’s. At $1,000,000 in sales, both plans pay her the same amount of money.
New base salary: $14,000
Commission: .028 * $1,120,000, or $31,360
Total earnings of: $14,000 + $31,360, or $45,360
If plan was in effect last year, the difference would've been $ ($45,600 - $45,360) less than what she received last year.
