You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hi,
This problem looks a little tricky at first, but once we break it down it is really quite simple. You are probably confused with how to find the ouput because the input skips numbers so it is hard to determine the output. We need to figure out a rule to figure out what our output is based on any number as our input. Figuring out a rule is just guess and check and working with the numbers to find any sort of pattern. So let's begin! So we start with 0 and 5. The difference between 5 and 0 is 5. Our rule for the chart is with every increase of 1 in our input, there is an increase of 3 in our output. Let's check this to make sure we are right. So when we have an input of 1, our output will be 8 if we add 3 to 5. Next is 2 and when we add 3 to 8, we get an output of 11. We continue this pattern...and for our input of 8 we get 29. So we know that adding three to the output with every increase of one in our input is our rule for the chart. So now to find the value of x, we must add 6 to 29(since we are increasing by three for every one input increase and we are incresing by two numbers...so 2*3=6) and we add 6 to 29, to get 35 as our answer for x. GOOD LUCK! Hope this helps you understand a little bit better. Let me know if you have any other questions or comments. :)
