Question 741629: Solving Rational Expressions:
1.) x/x+3 = 3/19
2.) 35= 8/s + 9
3.) For which value of x does 2x-1/8 = 5x+2/12?
If you are insure what I mean by 3/19 and the other problems, I am meaning it looks like a fraction. Please show me the work if you can. I am very confused on these three problems.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
we are asked to solve the following:
Solving Rational Expressions:
1.) x/x+3 = 3/19
2.) 35= 8/s + 9
3.) For which value of x does 2x-1/8 = 5x+2/12?
1.) cross multiply the two fractions and we get
19x = 3*(x+3)
19x = 3x+9
16x = 9
x = 9/16
2.) multiply both sides of the = by s and we get
35s = 8 + 9s
26s = 8
s = 8/26 = 4/13
3.) note that this problem is better stated with parenthesis which causes us to guess!
subtact 2x from both sides of = sign
-1/8 = 3x + 2/12
note that 2/12 = 1/6
-1/8 = 3x + 1/6
subtract 1/6 from both sides of = sign
-1/8 - 1/6 = 3x
6*8 = 48 and this becomes our common denominator
-6/48 -8/48 = 3x
-14/48 * 1/3 = x
