Question 740281: Hello, I'm trying to solve a math problem based on polynomials. My teacher recently had a baby, so we're stuck with a sub at the moment who didn't exactly explain the subject to us. The question of the paper is "What did the martian say when he accidentally landed on Venus?" So far, I didn't have much trouble, but as the problems proggressed, it seemed that they were to simple. I mean, how many problems can you NOT simplify? No one is going to make homwework that easy unless you're in elementery school. So, the problem I'm currently stuck on is this:
7x^2y-2xy^2
(seven times x(squared) times y minus two times x times y squared.)
I feel completely dumbfounded on what to do. If someone could please help me, I would feel extremely grateful. Please. If you do manage to help, I thank you in advance! (:

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
7x%5E2y-2xy%5E2

That's a polynomial. What are the instructions for this polynomial? Are you expected to factorize it? Is it part of an equation?

I am only guessing that you are doing a group of exercises to factorize polynomials.

Find the common factors among the terms in the polynomial, and reverse the distribution, and rewrite the polynomial in factored form.
7x%5E2y-2xy%5E2=7%2Ax%2Ax%2Ay-2%2Ax%2Ay%2Ay
=7%2Ax%2A%28x%2Ay%29-2%2A%28x%2Ay%29%2Ay=highlight%28xy%287x-2y%29%29
