Question 739602: Hi, I need some help with this equation: y=-1/6x^2 . the one i did before was Y=1/4x^2 and i understood that one but this ones seems like the complete opposite . i know that the negative sign means that it will be pointing down. but that's all i know. i dont know how to get the foci or vertex of it.i do know it's a parabola though. Help?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Same method as the other equation to find foci and vertex
parabola
focus | (0, -3/2)
vertex | (0, 0)
semi-axis length | 3/2 = 1.5
focal parameter | 3
eccentricity | 1
directrix | y = 3/2
This is from Wikipedia - "In Cartesian coordinates, a parabola with an axis parallel to the y axis with vertex (h, k), focus (h, k + p), and directrix y = k - p, with p being the distance from the vertex to the focus, has the equation (x-h)^2=4p(y-k)"
