Question 73865: 5) Logarithms:
a) Using a calculator, find log 10000 where log means log to the base of 10.
Answer:

b) Most calculators have 2 different logs on them: log, which is based 10, and ln, which is based e. In computer science, digital computers are based on the binary numbering system which means that there are only 2 numbers available to the computer, 0 and 1. When a computer scientist needs a logarithm, he/she uses a log to the base 2. To find the log of a number to any base, we can use a conversion formula as shown below:

Using this formula, find Log(base 2) 10000. Round your answer to the hundredth's place.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a) to calculate log 10000 we can simply use a calculator. log 10000 translates to
10%5Ex=10000 where the log is used to find x. So evaluating log 10000 we get 5. In other words, 10%5E5=10000

b)
Since we know how to find log 10000, we can find log+%2810000%29%2Flog+%282%29 Since log(10000)=5 we have our numerator and log(2)=0.301 so we divide them
log+%2810000%29%2Flog+%282%29=5%2F0.301=16.61 If you don't know how to work your calculator you can look for a manual online or you can ask me.
