since the ratio is 9:5 this means that 9 'parts' of the students are males, and 5'parts' of the students are female.
Adding these together gives a total of 14 'parts'.
now to find the size of one 'part'.
12,600 students divided by 14 = 900 students in one 'part'
this means that.. there are 9 times 900 males and 5 times 900 females
this gives us
8100 male students and 4500 female students
