when factored should get (x-6) (x+1). the x^2 is factored and put as two x's in both parantheses. Then you look at -5x. Imagine x is not there now think of two numbers that add up to -5. In this case it is -6+1. Now look at -6 (x^2-5x-->-6). You have to know two numbers that multiply up to 6. Now these two numbers have to be the same numbers that you chose to add up to -5. So of course use -6 and 1 which when multiplied give you -6. Hope you understand and if you don't try youtube or ask your teacher.
