How much of each alloy should be used to make 1000 grams of metal alloy that is 45% copper?
:
let x = amt of 50% alloy
the resulting total is to be 1000 grams, therefore
(1000-x) = amt of 25% alloy
:
.50x + .25(1000-x) = .45(1000)
.50x + 250 - .25x = 450
.50x - .25x = 450 - 250
.25x = 200
x = 200/.25
x = 800 grams of 50% copper alloy
then
1000-800 = 200 grams of 25% copper allow
