Let us assume that height and the shadow of the maggie is proportion to height and shadow of the tree.
Maggie's height = 5 ft 3 in = 21/4 ft
shadow = 7 ft
Tree's height = x
shadow = 25 ft
therefore we have : 21/4 : 7 :: x : 25
product of extreme = product of means
21/4 * 25 = 7 * x
x =
21 * 25
-------
4 * 7
x =
3 * 25
------
4
x = 18 3/4 ft
x = 18 ft 9 in
hence 18 feet and 9 inches is the height of the tree.
