Question 734073: 15 - 6 4/9=?
My textbook is not very clear on problems like this. It tells me to take one away from the whole number(15) to create a fraction, but what fraction? The example they give is 7 - 2 5/6. They take 1 away from the 7 and create 6 6/6. Am I supposed to take 1 from the 15 to make it 14 14/14? Answer by nerdybill(7384) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 15 - 6 4/9
You want the fractions to have the SAME denominator.
take one away from 15 (to get 9/9):
15 9/9 - 6 4/9
Now, you can subtract whole numbers and fractions:
(15-9) + (9/9 - 4/9)
6 5/9
