The slope is the "rise" over the "run". The "rise" is actually how far he has descended which is 1800 feet and the "run" is 3.25 mi or 17,160 feet. So the slope looks like
Slope=-1800%2F17600
Slope=-9%2F88Here's the slope in reduced form
Since he has descended 1800 feet, the slope is negative.
