Question 733948: I am in need of some help, this is my first statistics class and we are in the second week and I currently have a "D". My professor is not much help with my questions. Can someone please explain to me How do I solve these questions and Were do I begin? Please and Thank you.
1.)In the formula for the variance Σ (x – µ)^2/n, what is the sum if we don’t square the (x - µ) values? [Hint: There is a special name for this sum.]
2.)Consider the binomial distribution where n = 11 and p = 0.05.
Find the mean and standard deviation of this binomial distribution.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1.)In the formula for the variance Σ (x – µ)^2/n, what is the sum if we don’t square the (x - µ) values? [Hint: There is a special name for this sum.]
-----
Ans: The sum is always zero.
Try it with the set of numbers 1,2,3 and you'll see why it is zero.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.)Consider the binomial distribution where n = 11 and p = 0.05.
Find the mean and standard deviation of this binomial distribution.
mean = np = 11*0.05 = 0.55
----
std = sqrt(npq) = sqrt(0.55*0.95) = 72.28..

Stan H.
