    2(x - 2) = 4x - 8

      2x - 4 = 4x - 8       

 2x - 2x - 4 = 4x - 2x - 8   

          -4 = 2x - 8

       8 - 4 = 2x - 8 + 8

           4 = 2x

           2 = x
