Multiply (2) by -3

Add the two equations
-2 a = 14

plug value of a in (1)
1 a + 6 b = 5
-7 + 6 b = 5
6 b = 5 + 7
6 b = 12
b = 2
a= -7
b= 2
(-7,2) is the solution
