Question 729945: (6,-6); 9x+7y=8 write an equations of the line containing the given point and perpendicular to the line Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source):
7 y = -9 x + 8
Divide by 7
y = -9/ 7 x + 8/7
Compare this equation with y=mx+b, m= slope & b= y intercept
slope m = -9/7
The slope of a line perpendicular to the above line will be the negative reciprocal 7/9
Because m1*m2 =-1
The slope of the required line will be 7/9
m= 7/9 ,point ( 6 , -6 )
Find b by plugging the values of m & the point in
y=mx+b
-6 = 14/ 3 + b
b= -32/3
m= 7/9
The required equation is y = 7/ 9 x -32/ 3
