SOLUTION: I'm in pre-algebra and have to simplify by clearing the paraentheses and combining like terms and I just don't get this problem. -1/2(10q-2)+1/3(2-3q) I did this so far, -1/2*10

Question 729381: I'm in pre-algebra and have to simplify by clearing the paraentheses and combining like terms and I just don't get this problem. -1/2(10q-2)+1/3(2-3q)
I did this so far,
-1/2*10/1=-10/2q -1/2*2/1=2/2
1/3*2/1 =2/6 1/3*(-3q)=3/3q
-10/2q+3/3q must be -30/6+ 6/6=-24/6q
2/6+(-3/3) would be 2/6+(-6/6q)=-4/6
so my answer is
-24/6q + -4/6
It just doens't seem right to me

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
you are almost correct lets do the first bracket term by term
being careful when multiplying positive and negative numbers together
-%281%2F2%29%2A%28%2810q%29%2F1%29=-%2810q%29%2F2 = -5q
-%281%2F2%29%2A%28-2%2F1%29=2%2F2 = 1
giving us -5q + 1
now we'll consider the second bracket
%2B%281%2F3%29%2A%282%2F1%29=2%2F3
%2B%281%2F3%29%2A%28-3q%29=-%283q%29%2F3 = -q
putting these together gives
-5q%2B1%2B%282%2F3%29-q
simplifying gives
1%282%2F3%29-6q
