Question 726193: Please help me solve this equation.
(a) Solve the equation on the given interval, expressing the solution for x in terms of inverse trigonometric functions. (Enter your answers as a comma-separated list.)
(tan x)2 + 5 tan x − 36 = 0 on (−π/2, π/2)
x =

(b) Use a calculator to approximate the solution in part (a) to three decimal places. (Enter your answers as a comma-separated list.)
x =

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
For easy manipulation set tan(x) = x. Then the equation is x%5E2+%2B+5x+-36=0

%28x%2B9%29%28x-4%29=0 so x=-9 and x=4.

tan(x) = -9 (use calculator and inv tan) arctan(-9)= (part b.)-83.660 degrees

tan(x) = 4 and arctan(4) = (part b.)75.964 degrees
