Question 725944: if you are given odds of 2 to 5 in favor of passing a quiz, what is the probability of not graduating
Answer by jsmallt9(3758) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Odds and probability are both ratios. And both ratios have the same numerator: the number of ways a certain event could occur. The difference is in the denominators:- For odds the denominator is the number of ways the certain event can not occur. (In this case, the number of ways to fail.)
- For probability, the denominator is the total number of ways anything could occur. (In this case, the number ways one could pass plus the number of ways one could fail.)
So if the odds are 2/5, then the probability would be 2/(2+5) or 2/7.
