You can put this solution on YOUR website!
D=RT
600=(R-W)4 AGAINST THE WIND.
600=4R-4W
600=(R+W)1 WITH THE WIND.
600=R+W
R=600-W SUBSTITUTE (600-W) FOR R IN THE FIRST EQUATION & SOLVE FOR W.
600=(600-W-W)4
600=(600-2W)4
600=2400-8W
8W=2400-600
8W=1800
W=1800/8
W=225 MPH. FOR THE WIND.
R=600-225
R=375 FOR THE RATRWE OF THE PLANE INSTILL AIR.
PROOF:
600=(375-225)4
600=150*4
600=600

An airplane took 4 hours to fly 600 miles against head wind. The return trip with same wind took one hour. find speed of plane in still air.
***
let x= speed of plane in still air
let c= speed of wind
x+c=speed of plane downwind
x-c= speed of plane against the wind
travel time=distance/speed
..
600/(x-c)=4
600/(x+c)=1
..
600=4x-4c
600=x+c
..
600=4x-4c
2400=4x+4c
add
3000=8x
x=375
speed of plane in still air=375 mph
