Question 723809: Ok, my question is this:
Train one leaves town A and moves in the direction of town B with an average speed of 60 km/h Three quarters of an hour later, train 2 leaves town A and moves in the same direction of the first train with an average speed of 90 km/h. Find the time in minutes needed for train 2 to catch up with train 1.
I know it has to do with simultaneous equations, but i don't know what the values are. Thanks for helping. Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Train I 60 mph
Train II 90 mph
Train I 06:00
Train II 06:45
Difference in time= 00:45 => .75 hours
Train I will have covered 45.00 miles Train II starts
catch up distance= 45.00 miles
catch up speed = 90 -60
catch up speed = 30 mph
Catchup time = catchup distance/catch up speed
catch up time= 1.5
catch up time= 1.50 hours = 90 minutes
