Question 723482: How do I multiply and divide monomials?
Answer by ahmadsolehin(6) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Multiply/divide the coefficients and the variable parts separately, and put the results together as a product.
example: 2x * 3x^2
Multiply the coefficients -- 2*3 = 6
Multiply the x's by adding the exponents on x -- x^1 * x^2 = x^3
Put these together for the answer -- 6x^3
example: 24x^6 / 12x^3
Divide the coefficients -- 24/12 = 2
Divide the x's by subtracting the exponents -- x^6 / x^3 = x^(6-3) = x^3
Put these together for the answer -- 2x^3
There might be more than one variable in the problem. In this case determine the exponent for each variable separately (in the multiplication or division), then put the coefficient and all variables together as a product for the answer
