Question 7221: Hi Everyone:
We're studying Linear Equations this week and I'm having a hard time without a class friend who usually studies with me. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
How many solutions are there for the equation 3x - 11y = 15?
How many points are on a line (such as the one whose equation is:
3x - 11y = 15)?
Do all the solutions for 3x - 11y = 15 also make 3x - 11y >= 15 true? Answer by longjonsilver(2297) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! solutions/roots are "how many times does it cross/touch the x-axis (ie where y=0). Any straight line, from common sense will either have no solution (a line parallel to the x-axis) or 1 solution. The majority of lines will cross once. This answers part i.
point ii. how many points? it is a line, an infinite line. You tell me how many point there are. It is a moot point.
pointiii. "Do all the solutions"...there is just 1 solution. Think about what you are saying... the points on the line satisfy the 3x - 11y = 15 equation.
For the >= version, this says where will the left hand side be GREATER (or equal) to 15...ie everything above the line.
A graph is a visual representation of an equation. It shows where the lefthand side EQUALS the righthand side.
