| Question 720834: I need help with the following question,
 What is the solution set of the following system of equations?
 5x - 3y - 10 = 0
 x + y - 7 = 0
 The answer has to be one of the following,

 1. {(31/8, 25/8)}
 2. {(25/8, 31/8)}
 3. {(45/2, 31/2)}
 4. {(31/2, 45/2)}
 I have tries combining them,
 5x - 3y - 10=0
 ++++++++++++++
 x  + y - 7 =0
 into 6x - 2y -17 = 0
 6x - 2y -17 = 0
 +2y     +2y
 6x - 17 = 2y
 That's where I get lost.
 -Thank you

You can put this solution on YOUR website! What is the solution set of the following system of equations? 5x - 3y - 10 = 0
 x + y - 7 = 0
 -----
 Rearrange:
 5x - 3y = 10
 5x + 5y = 35
 ------
 Subtract to solve for "y":
 2y = 45
 y = 45/2
 ------
 Solve for "x" using x + y = 7
 x + 22.5 = 7
 x = -15.5 = -31/2
 -----------------------
 Cheers,
 Stan H.
