Question 718492: Suppose that x ounces of 25% acid solution are mixed with y ounces of 35% solution to obtain 60 ounces of a 32% solution. Find how much of each solution was used?
.25x+.35y=.32....X 10=25x+35y=32
x+y=60.....y=60-x
25x+35(60-x)=32

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The percentage representation needs to be a ratio of pure material to amount of resulting mixture. You should use a denominator, and it must be the quantity of the mixture.
%280.25x%2B0.35y%29%2F60=0.32
from which you can get steps:
0.25x%2B0.35y=60%2A0.32
25x%2B35y=60%2A32, then divide by 5 both sides
5x%2B7y=12%2A32
and you can do what you find you need.
