Question 718364: Chemex lab needs to make 500L of a 34% acid solution for a customer. The lab has only 25% and 50% acid solutions available. How many litres of each should be mixed?
This is what i have done so far:
Let x be the litres of 25%solution
Let y be the litres of 50% solution
X+y=500

Can you help me make the second equation. Thanks.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
That's a good start. Keep the variable in the case level that you first choose. x is not X.

You want an equation to relate the percentages of all the solutions.
(Amount of Pure Acid)/(Amount of Solution Mixture)=(Fraction Desired).
Using the actual values given,
highlight%28%2825x%2B50y%29%2F500=34%29. So you system to solve is this percents equation and this one: highlight%28x%2By=500%29. Use those two as a system and solve for x and y.
