Let x = the width of the pool
Then 3x = the length of the pool
:
area of pool = x(3x
total area = (x + 2(2.5)) * (3x + 2(2.5))
:
The total area - 265 = area of the pool:
(x+5)*(3x+5) - 265 = x(3x)
3x^2 + 5x + 15x + 25 - 265 = 3x^2
3x^2 - 3x^2 + 20x - 240 = 0
20x = 240
x = 240/20
:
x = 12 m width of the pool
3x = 36 m length of the pool
