Remove the abs
x - 5 = +(2x - 1)
x - 5 = 2x - 1
x -2x = - 1 + 5
-x = +4
x = - 4
And
x - 5 = -(2x - 1)
x - 5 = -2x + 1
x + 2x = 1 + 5
3x = 6
x = +2
